From Richard Waters 25/01/2012
We are now preparing to construct the main elements of the safety scheme and I am pleased to announce that Britannia Construction, working under the supervision of Gloucestershire Highways, will begin work in the High Street on the 6th February.
The High Street will remain open to traffic during the Road Safety Scheme works. Temporary traffic lights will sometimes be necessary but we will keep this to a minimum. The Contractor will work between the hours of 07:30 a.m. and 17:00p.m. We do not intend working weekends at this stage. We anticipate the works being complete by Easter but should the works take longer we will not work over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend. When the Road safety Scheme is complete we will then resurface the High Street.
While the works are on-going we will maintain a notice board in the Town Hall and at the Library which will display information about the scheme and explain how the works are being phased. The notice boards will also include a weekly progress bulletin and contact information should you have any Queries.
I intend to send out a weekly progress bulletin during the works by a-mail and if you would like to be on the circulation list for this please let me know by sending me an e-mail at: tewkesburyrss@gloucestershire.goy.uk
The Contractor's Site Foreman, Mr. Andy McHale, will be on site during the works and will be able to answer any Queries you may have regarding the Contractor's work, such as maintaining access to footways and accesses etc. If there are any queries Andy cannot answer please contact me.
I appreciate that the works will inevitably cause some disruption within the High Street and Barton Street We will do our best to keep this to a minimum but I do need to ask in advance for your patience. The long term benefits of this scheme will outweigh any short term impact during the construction works.
Should you have any queries please contact me on 08000 514514.

NACRA

THE SEVERN AND AVON VALLEY COMBINED FLOOD GROUP
Newtown Area Community and Residents Association

On the 20th of July 2007 the Newtown area of Tewkesbury was devastated by floods, this made the residents of Newtown realise that an association was needed to give them a larger voice in the town of Tewkesbury. Fourteen people were brought together as founder members and form the outlines of the association. The association now known as NACRA was formalised on the 29th of October 2007. NACRA will not only get involved with flooding issues but any residents concerns in the Newtown community.
January 24th:
The High Street road safety scheme will start on February 6th 2012, which is good news for Tewkesbury, we are at last changing our town for the betterment of the shoppers and visitors.
The contractor for this work is Britannia Construction, they will be working in conjunction with Gloucestershire Highways to give weekly updates on how the work is progressing. This will be a two way process and Traders and the community can pass on any concerns during the construction.
There will be a numbers of ways of how this information will be available notice boards, emails, Chamber of Commerce newsletter, this website etc. etc. we will keep you updated when we get information through.
Britannia will also be communicating with traders as the work progresses up and down the high street.
There will be no construction traffic lights for the first 4 weeks but traffic lights will be up for a 6 week period after this.
