1. Minutes from the March Committee Meeting were read and approved. It was agreed that Charlotte Francis be removed from the list of committee members as per the constitution, as she has not attended the last 3 meetings or sent apologies. Proposed by Pete, seconded by Graham, agreed by all.
2. Matters arising from the minutes:
a. Community Centre Questionnaire – Graham has collated the results and will forward to us in due course.
b. Gully cleaning – no update as GCC have been focusing on the election – Dave to ask Vernon to chase up.
c. Outreach Workers – continued funding – again Vernon to chase up.
d. “Super Suds” advertising sign – 2 letters have been sent to Geoff Lamley at TBC. After receipt of the first a visit was made during the week and the offending sign not seen. A second letter was sent enclosing a photograph and stating that the weekends were the time to visit, which Geoff will now do and request that “Super Suds desist from using that patch of grass as an advertising site”.
e. Open meeting – Janet commented that she was pleased with the content of the meeting but was disappointed by the low turnout (39, 15 of which were committee members, councillors and the speakers!) and the lack of the range of questions which we were hoping the general public would have the opportunity to ask. The speakers, Mella McMahon and Bob Nightingale reported that they found the meeting very worthwhile and that several issues were raised which they would address over the coming months.
3. TRI Parking update. Graham explained that TRIP was drafting a reply to the unsatisfactory letter received from TBC following the objection to increased car parking charges which was supported by all Residents’ Associations and several Parish Councils.
The amendment to the parking restrictions request in the town was at the consultation process.
A plan to provide more residents car parking within the town on an area of unused ground at the end of Gas Alley is being developed.
A bike to work/park and bike scheme is also being investigated with TBC.
4. Tewkesbury Direct magazine for advertising – due to the low turnout at the open meeting which was advertised in the newsletter and the amount of work involved in producing a newsletter, we have been trying to find other ways of letting residents know what NACRA is doing on their behalf that is less labour intensive! The Tewkesbury Direct magazine which is delivered free of charge, has a circulation of 9000 and we have discussed the possibility with other associations and the editor of using this as an advertising board for a nominal fee. A lot of interest has been shown so far. After discussion the Committee agreed to trial this idea. Julie/Janet to update as and when.
5. Treasurer’s report, updated following the Open Meeting – the account currently stands at a healthy balance of £388.67. £274.01 has been banked with £114.66 cash. £43.00 was raised by the raffle.
6. Any Other Business:
a. Janet received an email from Andy which will be discussed when he is present at a future meeting.
b. TTC Regeneration Committee are hosting a walk-in exhibition at the Watson Hall on June 18th and 19th and have invited NACRA to participate. Unfortunately no-one is available to represent us.
c. TBC meeting Tuesday 19th May – Severn Trent will making a presentation of the proposed new flood defence wall around the Mythe Treatment Works if anyone missed the public exhibition/would like to hear more discussion.
d. Dave informed us that Vernon has been appointed lead champion for flood alleviation at GCC which will enable him to have more influence over decisions/budgets/schemes which will benefit not just Tewkesbury but the County as a whole.
e. Play Park – Pete informed us that he has a meeting with the Town Clerk and TCllr Andy Smith on Thursday 20th May to discuss the awful, and potentially dangerous work carried out by the tree surgeons when the refurbishment of the park took place.
f. John McCloy informed us that the purchase of the Boys Brigade building has been approved by National HQ so hopefully work will begin in the not too distant future.
Meeting closed 8.30pm
Next meeting – Monday 21st June, 7pm at Strings
